November 23, 2004. Tuesday. Dale, Dawg & Kalimon are bringing the 36 Double D's home from San Diego - departed this morning around 6 AM heading north. With favorable conditions, they should be home this weekend. I will keep you posted on their arrival date/time so that as many as possible can be on the dock to welcome them home!

November 16, 2004. Tuesday. Check in from the Kipps at Sea

Must keep this short, as connection here in the little village at Turtle Bay is chancy at best.

Behind schedule ~ a lot. Probably won't hit San Diego unitl Nov 20 to 24. Dena and I may take plane home from there to get back to our jobs on time . . . depends on Mama Nature and her winds.

All are well ~ have some great stories we're bringing home.

Will check in from San Diego.

Love to all.

November 14, 2004. Sunday. As of this writing, word was received that the Baja Ha-Ha was a great success, and the 36 Double D’s is setting a course for home. Depending on their return, we’ll have the “rest of the story” in the December or January Puff n’ Putt.

November 7, 2004. Sunday. Hi! There are those of you who thought we are crazy for this adventure and there are those of you who are as crazy as us and want to be here. We are here!!! What an adventure. Words and photos won't begin to tell the story. We had gale storms that chased us back to Monterey. We had many calm days with lots of motoring. We have had dolphins swimming around us, we have had waves crash over us. AND at times we have had very nice winds and seas. We have met a great bunch of new friends and gotten to know crew/friends deeper.

We know for our return trip we have storms ahead and we are heading out Monday 11/08/04. We are ready for the second half of the adventure of the Double D's 2004. We hope to be home before Thanksgiving.

Thank you for the well wishes of all our friends and family back home.

Please forward to everyone that we are OK and enjoying the adventure.

No problemos, no worries --- keep sailing.

October 24, 2004. Sunday. So far so good
All - Friday AM the 36 Double D's was passing Catalina Island on her way to San Diego.

The 36 Double D's made it to San Diego 10-24 @01:00 AM. They had very light winds from Catalina to San Diego, stretching the normally twelve hour jaunt to sixteen hours. Everyone on the boat is still re-adjusting to walking on stable surfaces.

The stop in Morro Bay was about one hour, for refueling and fast provisioning, which left no time to phone home.

Everyone is well, the boat is dry and we are reprovisioning. Later today Captain Dale will be going to the Skippers meeting, and at 2PM is the Ha-Ha kick-off party. Monday, 10/25 we doc off at 9AM for an 11AM start of the cruise. First stop, 340 miles to Turtle Bay. Not sure what communication options exist for us between the finish and here, we'll send word where we can.

October 19, 2004. Tuesday. Just wanted to let everyone know that I heard from the Double D crew tonight. All is well and they are in Monterey for the night. They were headed for Morrow bay but the seas got too nasty so they turned around and went back 60 miles to Monterey. They plan to leave in the morning and will check back in with me sometime in the next few days.

By the way, they were enjoying the bottle of Wine that Faye gave them before leaving. Dale suspected that he would be passing out after the first glass as he hasn't had much sleep but they were happy that no one got sick (yet). I am sure we will all get the stories when they return.

Stay dry and warm! It even hailed here tonight!

September 17, 2004. Sunday. Today the Baja Ha-Ha cruise Dale Snearly and Dena Rutan had been planning for months got off to an auspicious start weather wise. With a full compliment of SLYC members and dock friends in attendance, Dale, Dena, Robin, Randy #1 and Randy #2 completed final inspections of the boat and prepared to get under way. Champagne was poured, toasts were offered, and in the Hawaiian tradition (thanks to Frank and Tina) flower pedals were sprinkled on the water for good luck and favorable winds.

Upon leaving the berth a light mist began falling. By the time they reached the end of the fairway it had reached a full rain. Undeterred Dale, Dena and crew proceeded on their course. Bruce and Fran Moon invited several of the dock guests to join them on the Luna Sea, and they escorted the Double D’s beyond the Bay Bridge before returning to the club. All reports were that although damp, at last sight captain and crew of the 36 Double D’s were making way nicely and all looked good for their Mexican cruise.

Knowing communication would probably be sketchy at best throughout the cruise, Dena none-the-less promised they would get updates to us when possible.
